NYC in Bloom

One of the amazing things about NYC is that spring literally blooms in the span of a week. We get a few teasers of warmer weather approaching, and then, all of a sudden, the city is in bloom. And in that moment, the city revives… Her inhabitants breathe a collective sigh of relief – a long awaited respite from battling the elements during the winter season. Maybe we New Yorkers feel more worn out from the grey months of winter because it’s another thing added to the ongoing navigation of the urban jungle – the crowds, noise, smells, crazy (sometimes wonderful, sometimes not) energy …

So when that blue sky appears, one feels a reaffirmation of all that this city has to offer, and a good day becomes an incredibly GREAT day, and somehow, you do feel like you are in the center of the Universe.

The warmer days invite more outdoor activities – and the beautiful parks in NYC serve as our haven and communal “back yard”. I have long enjoyed running outdoors in the warm months – for many years, as an Upper West Sider, I ran in Riverside Park, and now that I’ve migrated closer to Central Park, I enjoy my runs along the Central Park Reservoir. I’m what I call a “casual runner” – I run for as long and as fast as feels good that day. It’s like a meditation for me – just the sound of feet to¬†pavement and your own thoughts to keep you company.

Here are a few pictures from my Reservoir run …
